What is the MyoKinesthetics System?
A muscle movement technique that balances the posture and re-educates the central nervous system. The MyoKinesthetics system is highly effective for pain, range-ofmotion problems, repetitive strain injury and many other health related issues. The system addresses the problems in the nervous system by specifically stimulating only the muscles innervated by the problem nerve root.
What is the Difference?
Unlike massage or other bodywork, you don't have to undress, and there are no oils or creams required. It only takes about 30 minutes and is geared to get rid of your specific pain complaint. But the biggest difference is that the MyoKinesthetic system goes straight to the cause of the problem by dealing with muscle imbalance and nerve dysfunction in order to get fast and lasting results.
Why MyoKinesthetics?
The best reason to give MyoKinesthetics a try is that you will get real results! Maybe you've tried physical therapy, massage, accupuncture or many other things and have not experienced relief. When you are in pain, the fastest way to real relief is to find the cause. With the MyoKinesthetics system we find the cause, address the specific problem and relieve your pain, fast!
The number of sessions vary but most people experience pain relief within the first week of care. There is no reason not to try it.
First its important to understand where your pain came from and why it may be so difficult to find relief:
Our Bodies Work For Us
Our bodies are intelligent. They are designed to know what to do. The systems within the body are organized and systematic. They work constantly to create balance so that you have full range of motion in all your joints and no pain in your muscle tissue. However, daily living includes movement, bumps, slips, falls, and repetitive motion, all of which can pull our muscles out of balance, put stress on our joints and eventually create lasting dysfunction in our nervous system.
Muscle Imbalance
A muscle imbalance occurs when you have over-developed and tight muscles in one area of your body while the opposing muscles are weak and/or stretched out. These imbalances can happen anywhere in your body and often develop as the result of the routine things you do while on the job, playing sports or engaging in other activities that include any repetitive movement.
Nervous System Dysfunction
Once your muscles become unbalanced, your nervous system stops working properly. Remember, its job is to create balance in your body, so it fights to compensate for the newly created imbalances. These "compensations" first appear as posture distortions. Posture is an outward expression of the internal nervous system, therefore faulty posture shows us there is a problem with our nervous system.
Cause and Compensation
For many people pain is a constant companion. Headaches, neck, back and shoulder pain are all too common. Your body will compensate until it cannot compensate any longer and that is when you begin to feel pain. Your pain may be coming from your compensations, but that is not what originally caused it.
So instead of “chasing the pain” we need to find the cause and clear it. Only then can we begin to balance the posture and relieve the pain.
For an example, let's look at a 5 year old boy who has good posture but suddenly falls off a back porch and knocks a bone out of place. His nervous system instantly sends a signal to the brain telling it that a bone has moved and that the muscles attached to it are no longer in balance. In order for him to stand up straight after this accident, his brain must send messages telling some muscles to contract and others to relax. His body has now learned how to compensate for this change.
If this boy does not get treatment, his posture will begin changing to adapt to the new position he is in relative to gravity. Once this happens muscles for movement begin to help out the muscles designed for posture and the result will be poor posture with limited range of motion in certain areas. As time goes on and other things happen (falls, accidents, etc.), his body continues to compensate, creating additional postural distortions and eventually pain.
Laying the Foundation
In order for your body to repair itself correctly and fully, certain things have to happen in a particular order. It is like building a house. If you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. The same is true for your body.
If we can first find the original cause, we can treat muscle imbalances and nerve dysfunction. Doing this first will clear compensations, eliminate conditions and most importantly relieve pain.
What's A Session Like?
We begin the system with a full-body posture assessment. Your symptoms, history of injuries and postural distortions help to determine the "cause" of your problem. Next, we stretch your muscle, and have you perform the range of motion yourself. At the same time we stimulate specific muscles. The stimulation will come from a simple pressing, gliding or rubbing motion. We will do this to all of the muscles along this pathway on both sides of the body. This simple procedure will erase muscle memory and allow the nervous system to communicate freely again.
The rest is up to you and your brain. The session is not complete until you stand up. At this point, your brain receives the information that was given through the muscle stimulation and makes the necessary changes to balance your body.
The number and frequency of your sessions is based upon your level of muscle and nerve dysfunction. You can ensure that you are always making forward progress by sticking to your session schedule and keeping your appointments.
